In 2025, Kjell Höglund will turn 80. To celebrate this, Ellen Sundberg and Ellinor Brolin, along with a band, will embark on a major tour. As if more reasons were needed to highlight Höglund’s unique artistry… But any occasion is a good occasion!
The performance shares its name with the SVT documentary, "When the Train Leaves the Platform – Ellen Sundberg & Ellinor Brolin Following in Kjell Höglund's Footsteps." Alongside Ellen and Ellinor’s interpretations, a central theme of the program is Höglund’s occult manifesto, Magnus Opus, narrated by actor Sven J Björklund, known from the comedy group Klungan.
With songs like "Genesarets sjö," "Jag hör hur dom ligger med varandra," and "Man vänjer sig," Kjell Höglund has firmly embedded himself in the consciousness of many Swedes. His poetic lyrics and homemade blend of pop, rock, schlager, and folk have carved out a unique space for him within Swedish popular music. His songs console, entertain, and empower, and his devoted fanbase spans from the very young to the elderly.
SVT’s documentary "When the Train Leaves the Platform – In the Footsteps of Kjell Höglund" portrays how both Ellen Sundberg and Ellinor Brolin independently recorded albums of their versions of Kjell Höglund’s music.
The interpretations on "Du sålde min biljett" reflect Ellen Sundberg’s distinct talent for expression, which is also evident in her musical settings of Bodil Malmsten’s work. The album was an instant success, and the sold-out vinyl edition is now a highly sought-after collector’s item, fetching thousands of kronor.
Ellinor Brolin, on the other hand, had the honor of recording brand-new songs with lyrics that Höglund never had the chance to complete. The album "Det tredje årtusendet" features compositions by Staffan Hellstrand, Kajsa Grytt, Peter LeMarc, and Johan Johansson. It is a treasure for all who love Kjell Höglund’s art and never thought they’d hear more from him.
Kjell Höglund has permanently left the stage. “I’m done,” as he expressed it in an SR documentary a few years ago—a decision that has only further cemented his legendary status. In recent years, he’s been celebrated with his own recurring club, Kväll Höglund, where only his music is played, and honored at the Storsjöyran festival in his hometown of Östersund with the concert Kjellsorterat, where artists like Lars Winnerbäck and Melissa Horn performed his songs for a large audience.
Tickets will be released on Friday, October 25 at 10:00 AM via sarakulturhus.se, ticketmaster.se, and Skellefteå Tourist Center.
