Tribute to Lill-Babs – Lina Hedlund takes “Barbro Barbro” on tour across Sweden

After a sold-out run at Kulturhuset Stadsteatern in Stockholm, Lina Hedlund is now taking her hit show Barbro Barbro on the road. This fall, more cities will have the chance to experience this personal and sparkling tribute to one of Sweden’s most beloved artists – Barbro “Lill-Babs” Svensson.

“Barbro has always been my role model, both on and off stage. Bringing this show to life has been a dream and a heartfelt project for many years,” says Lina Hedlund.

Barbro Barbro is a musical love letter to the icon from Järvsö. Lina Hedlund – herself a showgirl from Hälsingland – blends Barbro’s greatest hits with anecdotes, humor, and heart. With one foot in a rubber boot and the other in a stiletto, Lina invites the audience to an evening filled with music, laughter, and nostalgia.

The idea for the show was born over ten years ago, but it wasn’t until spring 2023 that things began to take shape. Sara Jangfeldt, then head of Soppteatern, offered Lina a role in a play. During rehearsals, Lina mentioned her long-held dream of doing something about Barbro. Six months later, Sara received an email from journalist Karin Thunberg, suggesting a monologue about Lill-Babs. Sara connected the two – and the rest is history.

Lina and Karin clicked instantly. During the winter of 2023, they began shaping what would become Barbro Barbro. Karin interviewed Lina, Lina chose the songs, and the script grew – conversation by conversation, meeting by meeting. Shortly thereafter, director Niki Gunke Stangertz joined the team, completing the creative trio.

“I’m so grateful and happy that Karin and Niki were part of making Barbro Barbro a reality – three women, three generations, and a shared love for Barbro. It’s turned out better than I ever could have dreamed. And now, I finally get to take it on the road and share it with all of Sweden,” says Lina Hedlund.
