Sara kulturskog - a place for culture and climate
In the village of Östra Falmark, near Skellefteå Airport, a new forest is taking shape. For every cultural experience held at Sara kulturhus, new trees are planted here - both as a tribute to the past and a promise for the future. Sara kulturskog is a collaboration between Sara kulturhus and Holmen.
Sara kulturhus is a 20-storey wooden building in the heart of Skellefteå, serving as a hub for culture and community gatherings. The structure is largely built from timber sourced from Holmen’s forests, processed into construction materials at Holmen’s sawmill in Bygdsiljum, and delivered and assembled by Martinsons, a part of Holmen. Sara kulturskog is an extension of this collaboration, where the centre’s cultural events are transformed into new seedlings in the forest.

With Sara kulturskog, Holmen aims to support local culture while also providing future generations with access to valuable woodland. It is a place for reflection that also contributes to climate benefits. Together, we demonstrate that culture and climate action can grow side by side, sustainably and with care.
