In May, two generations of Swedish hard rock will come together in Skellefteå when Hammerfall and The Gems perform on the same night. Hard rock fans, and everyone else, can look forward to an unforgettable evening as the veteran band Hammerfall and the rising stars The Gems take the stage at Sara kulturhus.
After dominating international stages for decades, Hammerfall has cemented its place as one of Sweden’s biggest heavy metal bands. Founded in Gothenburg in 1993, the band currently consists of Joacim Cans, Oscar Dronjak, Fredrik Larsson, Pontus Norgren, and David Wallin.
Their debut album Glory to the Brave, released over 25 years ago, took the metal world by storm and marked the beginning of a long and successful career that shows no signs of stopping. Hammerfall has achieved immense success both nationally and internationally, earning several Grammis nominations, amassing over 300 million streams, and selling over 3 million physical albums.
Their latest album, Avenge the Fallen, was released on August 9, 2024. "This is our 13th album," Joacim proudly states. "How do you stay relevant after 13 albums? It's very much like the opening line from the song 'Avenge the Fallen': 'What is the worst, be the one who died, or be the one who survived.' Think about it, because it's a tough question." He continues, "Do we want to be a band that releases new music just to get back on the road, or do we want to keep pushing and challenging ourselves? In times when people's attention spans are shrinking, we still think in terms of full-length albums. A few good songs don't make a strong album. A strong album comes from an album full of great songs, and that’s what we deliver with Avenge the Fallen."
The Gems, formed in 2023, have already taken the Swedish rock scene by storm. Their debut album Phoenix, released in January 2024, quickly climbed to the 3rd spot on the Swedish album charts and also saw high rankings in Europe and the U.S. The Gems consist of Guernica Mancini on vocals, Emlee Johansson on drums, and Mona “DeMona” Lindgren on guitar and bass. Their sound blends classic rock with a modern touch.
With years of experience as prominent members of the band Thundermother, they have become seasoned musicians with numerous major tours under their belts. They've performed at Wacken, Sweden Rock Festival, Copenhell, and most recently opened for the legendary Scorpions on a two-month arena tour in North America. Get ready for an entertaining and high-energy show!
